Read any top-five list featuring only desktop vaporizers and the Volcano by Storz & Bickel will be there, often alongside the Storz & Bickel Plenty. The Volcano has been emulated by other brands (think of the Arizer Extreme Q) and referenced in many articles about desktop vaporizers for herbs.
At one time this was the pinnacle of engineering but it still stands out, even as the Herbalizer and other top notch brands are released. From what customers have said, paying more to own this expertly engineered convection mod instead of a cheap imitation was a good decision.
Buy the Volcano Vaporizer
When you move to purchase one of these items, there are always multiple choices. One is whether to buy the analog (Classic) or Digital device.
Second is whether your package should come with an Easy Valve set or the Solid Valve package. People who prefer to make life easier for themselves go with a Digital device and an Easy Valve kit. Individuals whose priority is economy opt to pair the Classic with a Solid Valve. A blending of Digital with Solid indicates a desire for precision and control. Once you have purchased a mod, you can use either valve set at any time; both are compatible. They last quite a while, though, before replacements are necessary.
The Easy Valve Set comes with five pre-made balloons. Everything is ready: just connect this system to your vaporizer and use the bags up to 100 times. You will know when a bag should be replaced because your vapor tastes stale, but when they are fresh you could conceivably store vapor inside for as much as 8 hours. Balloons are great for passing between friends.
Select the Solid Valve Set and you have to build your bags, but you receive 3 meters of material to make them to your preferred size so the set might last longer. It is harder to use but more customizable and clients suggest it does not take long to get the hang of what is needed. Other bags are compatible too.
The Classic Vaporizer
A Volcano Classic is Storz & Bickel’s original design from more than a decade ago. They thought up a silver mountain (heating block) with a control dial at the front and a crater at the top through which air forces vapor into the bag. You eventually learn what position on the dial is best for various herbs, but it is more difficult to achieve precise levels between 266F and 446F with the dial. Customers usually select a value and it stays there. The light goes out up front when your heater is ready, which takes up to two minutes. This device costs $479 with a valve package.
The Digital Vaporizer
Volcano’s Digital self features a high tech screen with two green triangular arrow buttons for raising or lowering temperature. The display on your food-safe aluminum heating block is big and easy to read with settings as low as 104F. There is just one fan speed, so no settings for that. A red light shows when heating is finished, green indicates air is on, and the orange light tells you there is power. The price with balloons is $599.
More Purchasing Points
If your vendor is someone like Vapor Nation or another major retailer (even Storz & Bickel directly through their US branch), you should receive a 3-year warranty for repairs to the motor or fan as needed. The company would be surprised to receive a warranty claim but handle their customers with courtesy and deal with problems promptly. Clients who have owned a Volcano for 8 years say it still runs like a dream, describing it in luminous terms as though it were their first car. Of course, they have to take good care of their machine and clean it periodically, but it doesn’t even take much cleaning.
Extra parts are offered when you place your order: more screens, liquid, pads, and so on. Your order should come with an orange grinder, so if you like that one you will not need a new grinder for ages. There are lots of other grinder styles around as spares or alternatives. A cleaning tool, filling chamber, screens, air filters, and a liquid pad are packed in with your motor. The liquid pad lets you vaporize aromatic oils. Air filters remove particulates and toxins from your herbs which the screens miss.
Glowing Customer Reviews
Aside from the price point (a lot of people object to how much this German-made item costs), most reports are glowing. Few people refer to the fan as “noisy,” and Storz & Bickel has tweaked their fan over the years so it is quieter. Flavor is excellent: pure and rich. In general, customers agree that new vapers should start with a Volcano instead of wasting money on less sturdy items simply because they are cheaper or have a novel shape. This machine is made to last. It’s not even remotely portable like flimsier pretenders, but that’s fine because weight translates into build quality and — potentially — a lifetime of enjoyment.
